Its ought, in no cireumstance, to be used for it is; and 'tis never in prose. This sentence is radically bad, becanse it contains a mixed metaphor. "Language is used by the senator to express the grand and majestic torrent of feelings which swell his breast, and ichich, like imprisoned spirits, burst their bonds asunder, and with the rapidity of the lightning's flash convey their electric influence to every heart, clothed in all the prismatic colours of language's ever-changing dress." Such sentences as these are incorrect"Could, and have been, performed;" it ought to be--could be, and have been, performed. The following violate a rule of grammar: --"The valuable stores of literature he is possessed of."--" Destitnte of every blessing he is now possessed of."--" The immense superiority man is endowed with." Of which he is possessed--with which man is endowed, is the correct method of expression. "For the making them suseeptible to the cheering beams of intellectual light, ' should be--for making them suseeptible of enjoying the cheering beams of intellectual light. 66, F. A.
